Add a plan layer to keep track of project plans in Unearth.
PDF or image layers allow users to keep track of blueprints, hand-drawn maps, previous work done, and other data. Unearth gives users an easy workflow to upload these documents.
To add a layer to your Unearth site:
- Go to the plus button on the left.
- Scroll down to the "Files" group and click on the "Plan" tool.
- Choose which file you want to upload. Once you have the file selected, click on "Upload" in the lower right of the file upload window.
- Once the file has been uploaded, click on the green Layers button. Your layer will take a little bit of time to be prepared. Once it is, your file will be automatically placed on the map (if it's georeferenced), or you will need to manually stake it into position (see next section).
Here's how to stake a layer:
- Place the first stake that appears on the screen in the correct location on the map (on the left half of the screen), and the corresponding location on the file (on the right). You can also set the latitude and longitude for the point.
- Place corresponding stakes on at least two more points on both the map and file. Click on the map to add another point. Points on the map and file should be in the same position, and you can tell this via the numbers on each stake. Stake 1 should be in the same place on both sides, as should 2 and 3.
- When you're done placing the stakes, click "Next" in the top right corner.
- Preview the staked plan. You can also change the color of the plan, if desired.
- Click "Done" in the top right corner again to complete your layer, or click "Edit Pins" on the left corner to go back and refine the staking location if needed.
- Now you'll be able to view your file as a layer on your map. You may prefer to switch your basemap to the topo basemap or light basemap to best view your plan. To learn how to turn your layer on or off, see this article.
